AOS will begin offering hybrid, in-person learning on Monday, March 29th. Whether you are in hybrid, virtual, or the GED program, things will be a little different.
HYBRID IN-PERSON
With the start of the new trimester on March 29th, we will begin hybrid in-person learning. Because of our small school size, hybrid will look a little different at AOS than it will at the other two high schools:
WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
- Students will come to school two days a week for in-person instruction, will receive virtual instruction two days, and Wednesdays will continue to be asynchronous with Advisory from 9:30-10 am.
- Half of the students will come to the building on Mondays and Thursdays, which we call “Green Days,” and the other half will come to school on Tuesdays and Fridays, which we call “Silver Days.”
- Each student will receive an emailed copy of their schedule to their school email account, which will include their classes, teachers, classroom, and the days of the week they come to the building.
- Your teachers will have the same schedule as you, which means they will be in the building with you on the days you are here, and they will be teaching virtually on the days you are learning at home. That means you will continue to have the four days of instruction and Wednesdays will remain asynchronous. Students will not lose any instruction time by the move to hybrid.
- Students will be assigned a classroom and a table at school, where they will spend all of their classes. The teachers will rotate, which eliminates passing periods and added opportunities for potential contamination.
- Classrooms will not be used by any other group. That means your student’s classroom and seat will never be used by anyone else. Classrooms will always be sanitized between use.
- There will only be 30-40 students in the building on any day, and class sizes will be kept around 10 each (class size variation depends on the classroom space they are assigned to).
- Students will be asked to follow social distancing guidelines such as remaining six-feet apart. They will also have to wear a mask at all times while at school.
- Students will be screened at the door before entering the building. If you have any symptoms or have been exposed, we ask that you remain at home and contact the school.
WHAT TO BRING:
- Students should bring their own mask to school every day. We have disposable masks if a student does not have one.
- Drinking fountains are only to be used for water bottles, so please bring your own water bottle.
- Students are asked to bring their fully-charged chromebooks or laptops with them to school. If your student does not have a device they can bring, please notify the school immediately so that we can arrange for your student to have a chromebook the remainder of the year. Email Mrs. Barker at gwen.barker@albany.k12.or.us to arrange for your own chromebook.
- Weather permitting, we will have windows open to assist with ventilation. We will also have outdoor spaces for lunch, and classes may utilize our outdoor space for instruction, so bring warm layers to school.
As always, AOS strives to provide students with creative and innovative learning opportunities, which will continue in hybrid as well.
COMPREHENSIVE DISTANCE LEARNING/VIRTUAL
For families that have chosen to remain virtual the rest of the year, we will continue to offer that option, but it will look a little different beginning with the new term on March 29th.
- Students will have one or two classes a day with Mrs. Roundy in English and/or Social Studies.
- Students will also be enrolled in our Choices program, where they will work on credits through OdysseyWare, packets, and Khan Academy at their own pace with assistance from Mrs. Glass.
- Wednesdays will continue to be asynchronous with ROCKS Advisory from 9:30-10 am.
- Students will have attendance taken for their classes with Mrs. Roundy and for their daily work on their Choices online classes.
- Students requesting in-person support will be able to arrange a time to come to the building on Wednesdays.
GED PROGRAM
Students in the GED program will see some changes as well starting on March 29th:
- Class times will remain the same and testing will continue to take place on-site at AOS.
- Ms. Fitzpatrick will continue to provide synchronous, online instruction Mondays and Thursdays
- Tuesdays and Fridays, Ms. Fitzpatrick will be at AOS and will be able to provide in-person instruction and support to GED students during the regular program class time. Space is limited, so she will arrange with students to ensure that those wanting in-person support are able to come to the building for instruction.
- Students who are working from home on Tuesdays and Fridays will work independently on the GED prep program.

LO QUE NECESITA SABER:
· Los estudiantes vendrán a la escuela dos días a la semana para recibir instrucción en persona, recibirán instrucción virtual dos días y los miércoles seguirán siendo asincrónicos(independiente) con la clase de asesoría de 9: 30-10 am.
· La mitad de los estudiantes vendrá al edificio los lunes y jueves, que llamamos “Días verdes”, y la otra mitad vendrá a la escuela los martes y viernes, que llamamos “Días plateados“.
· Cada estudiante recibirá una copia por correo electrónico de su horario a su cuenta de correo electrónico de la escuela, que incluirá sus clases, maestros, salón de clases y los días de la semana que vienen al edificio.
· Los maestros tendrán el mismo horario que los estudiantes, lo que significa que estarán en el edificio con los estudiantes los días que estén aquí, y enseñarán virtualmente los días que estén aprendiendo en casa. Eso significa que continuarán teniendo los cuatro días de instrucción y los miércoles permanecerán asincrónicos. Los estudiantes no perderán tiempo de instrucción por el cambio al aprendizaje híbrido.

· Se les pedirá a los estudiantes que sigan las pautas de distanciamiento social, como permanecer a seis pies de distancia. También deberán usar una máscara en todo momento mientras estén en la escuela.
· Los estudiantes serán examinados en la puerta antes de entrar al edificio. Si tiene algún síntoma o ha estado expuesto, le pedimos que se quede en casa y se comunique con la escuela.
LO QUE NECESITA TRAER:
· Los estudiantes deben traer su propia máscara a la escuela todos los días. Tenemos mascarillas desechables si el estudiante no las tiene.
· Las fuentes de agua potable solo se deben usar para llenar botellas de agua, así que traiga su propia botella de agua.
· Se les pide a los estudiantes que traigan a la escuela sus Chromebooks o laptops completamente cargados. Si su estudiante no tiene un dispositivo que pueda traer, notifique a la escuela inmediatamente para que podamos hacer arreglos para que su estudiante tenga un Chromebook el resto del año. · Si el clima lo permite, tendremos ventanas abiertas para ayudar con la ventilación. También tendremos espacios al aire libre para el almuerzo, y las clases pueden utilizar nuestro espacio al aire libre para la instrucción, así que usar prendas abrigadoras para ir a la escuela.

APRENDIZAJE INTEGRAL A DISTANCIA / VIRTUAL
Para las familias que han optado por permanecer con el aprendizaje virtual el resto del año, continuaremos ofreciendo esa opción, pero se verá un poco diferente a partir del nuevo trimestre el 29 de marzo.
Los estudiantes tendrán una o dos clases al día con la Sra. Roundy en inglés y / o estudios sociales.
Los estudiantes también se inscribirán en nuestro programa “Choices”, donde trabajarán en créditos a través de “OdysseyWare”, paquetes y “Khan Academy” a su propio ritmo con la ayuda de la Sra. Glass.
Los miércoles seguirán siendo asincrónicos con la clase de asesoría llamada ROCKS de 9: 30-10 am.
Se tomará la asistencia de los estudiantes para sus clases con la Sra. Roundy y para su trabajo diario en sus clases en línea Choices.
Los estudiantes que soliciten apoyo en persona podrán programar una hora para venir al edificio los miércoles.
PROGRAMA GED
Los estudiantes en el programa GED también verán algunos cambios a partir del 29 de marzo:
Los horarios de clase seguirán siendo los mismos y las pruebas continuarán realizándose en el sitio en AOS.
La Sra. Fitzpatrick continuará brindando instrucción en línea sincrónica los lunes y jueves.
Los martes y viernes, la Sra. Fitzpatrick estará en AOS y podrá brindar instrucción y apoyo en persona a los estudiantes de GED durante el horario de clases del programa regular. El espacio es limitado, por lo que hará arreglos con los estudiantes para asegurarse de que aquellos que deseen apoyo en persona puedan venir al edificio para recibir instrucción.
Los estudiantes que trabajan desde casa los martes y viernes trabajarán de forma independiente en el programa de preparación para el GED.
